Jenn Haven village is associated with the relocation of the Khosis Community (also spelled “Khosis”), who had been living on land adjacent to the Lohatlha Battle School (formerly a large army training area). According to court records, in about early 1978, after the removal of the Gatlhose Community and Maremane Community, the South African Defence Force established the battle school on former reserve land.
The Khosis community was confined to an area of roughly 14,000 hectares and, as the battle school expanded, found themselves encircled and under increasing pressure to relocate.
After more than a decade of negotiations, the majority of the Khosis community voluntarily under pressure relocated to Jenn Haven in 1992, where alternative land and grazing farms were allocated.
The origin of the name “Jenn Haven” is attributed to a “Mr William Jenneke, a well-loved community leader, teacher, and clergyman.”
