- Description
- Situated in the Bothetheletsa Reserve, about 30 km north-east of Kuruman.
- History
- Metswetsaneng is inhabited by the baTshweng people, who share the reserve with a baTlhaping community (PL Breutz, The Tribes of the Districts of Kuruman and Postmasburg, 1963, p. 189). The village is situated on the Matlhwaring River. Very long ago, the tribe came from the Hurutshe and settled near Griquatown. After 1870, they came to this area. The first baTshweng headman was Makgetle, born about 1830. This community "spoke the language of the Griqua" (presumably a mix of Dutch and Koranna) at the time (Breutz, p. 192). They lived under the protection of the baTlhaping.
