In the 1870s, the new Griqualand West colonial government allocated Kalkfontein to a Griqua farmer, Isaac Haai (PHR Snyman, Danielskuil: Van Griekwa-buitepos tot dienssentrum, HSRC, 1988, p. 28).

Historical Ownership

In 1881, the farm Kalkfontein was listed as belonging to the Griqua Isaac Haai (Cape of Good Hope, Return of Farms and Lands granted in Griqualand West, Cape Town 1881, p. 26 ). It was granted by the Griqua Captain, Nicolaas Waterboer.
