- Under the Griqualand West colonial government, established in the 1870s, the owner of Blikfontein, JG Donovan, was appointed as veldkornet (justice of the peace) (PHR Snyman, Danielskuil: Van Griekwa-buitepos tot dienssentrum, HSRC, 1988, p. 26). After the Tswana rebellion of 1878, the colonial government stationed a police contingent at Blikfontein (Snyman 1988, p. 32). During the Tswana rebellion of 1897, local white farmers gathered at Blikfontein to set up a defensive camp (Snyman 1988, p. 44). Blikfontein became a postal agency in 1895 (Snyman 1988, p. 49). The road between Danielskuil and Kuruman passed through Blikfontein (Snyman 1988, p. 50).
