- Ellendale Farm is also called New Smouswane. It is inhabited by the baTlhaping Ba Ga Moduana. In 1963, the headman was Tauwana Seboko, born in 1882 (PL Breutz, The Tribes of the Districts of Kuruman and Postmasburg, 1963, p. 204). In 1942, the tribe moved from Smouswane (south-east of Kuruman) to Ellendale. The Reserve is situated on the Matlhwaring River. The villages in the Reserve are Mkadibeng, and Carrington/Karanton). Gamadiwane (New Smouswane). It is located about 25 km north-east of Kuruman. The tribe is an early separate branch of the baTlhaping. In the mid-1800s, they lived at Dikgatlong on the junction of the Vaal and Harts Rivers (near the modern town of Barkly West). At the end of the 1800s, they moved to Smouswane; and the apartheid government moved them to Ellendale in 1943 (Breutz p. 205).
