Founded: 1820.

Name: Formerly known as Port Elizabeth, colloquially as PE. Officially renamed in 2021 after the Xhosa name of the Baakens River that flows through the city. Other colloquial names: The Friendly City, The Windy City.

Economy: Automotive assembly. Manufacturing and export industries (port city). Sub-Saharan investment. Cultural, economic, and financial hub of the Eastern Cape. The Addo Elephant National Park is situated close-by.
