Description

Location: The seat of the Dihlabeng Local Municipality (Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality) in the northeastern Free State province.

Founded: 1864.

Name: Named after its biblical counterpart, which means “House of Bread”. Likely due to the prominence of wheat crop cultivation– South Africa’s main Centre for Wheat Research is situated close-by.

Economy: Retail, medical and education hub of the eastern Free State province. Home to several industries including Coca-Cola, South African Breweries and Nestlé, as well as petroleum and engineering companies.
