• genetics

  Screening tests to discover individuals whose genotypes are associated with specific diseases.
• genome

  The total genetic material of an organism, comprising the genes contained in its chromosomes; sometimes the term is used for haploid set of chromosomes of an organism.

• hospitalization

  Admission to hospital for treatment.
• hospitalization rate

  Is the number of inpatient hospital discharges due to all causes for every 1,000 people within the geographic area. The number of cases in a year is relatively small, so that large changes in rates can happen year to year. Rates are age and sex standardized using the canadian 1991 population.
• host

  A person or other living organism that harbours an infectious agent under natural conditions.
• host factor

  An intrinsic factor (e.g., age, race/ethnicity, sex, or behaviors) that influences a person’s exposure, susceptibility, or response to an agent.
• hyper-immune response (a cytokine storm)

  Involves activation of multiple inflammatory pathways leading to hyper inflammation and cytokine storm, resulting in tissue damage, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and multi-organ failure.

  Is a medical condition where the force of blood against the artery walls is consistently too high.
• hysteria

  State of extreme emotional excess and exaggerated behaviour in response to fear, panic or psychological distress.
• Immune

  Protect against an infection by the presence of specific antibodies against the organisms concerned.
• Immunization

  The production of immunity by natural and or artificial means.
• incidence

  A measure of the frequency with which new cases of illness, injury, or other health condition occur among a population during a specified period.
• incidence proportion

  The fraction of persons with new cases of illness, injury, or other health condition during a specified period, calculated as the number of new cases divided by the size of the population at the start of the study period.
